How to hide sticky notes from screen sharing and screenshots on Mac

Updated October 6, 2026 · by Shiva Chandra, maker of CrushPaper

CrushPaper notes can stay visible to you while screen shares, screenshots and recordings leave them out. Three ways: Hide Notes from Screen Sharing in the menu bar menu (every note and the board), the lock on a single note (Private), or Ghost mode (see-through notes that are never captured).

Before a call: hide everything

  1. Right-click the CrushPaper icon in the menu bar.
  2. Choose Hide Notes from Screen Sharing.
  3. Share your screen. You still see your notes; viewers don't.

Hide just one note

Open the note's editor and tap the lock next to Pin to app. That note stays out of captures even when the menu bar switch is off.

Ghost mode

In Settings → Notes, choose Ghost. Notes float see-through over everything, clicks pass through them, and they never appear in screenshots or shares. Hold ⌥ to grab one.

How it works

macOS lets an app mark a window as not shareable. Capture tools that respect it — including the macOS screenshot tool, which we test against — leave those windows out of the image. Meeting apps that use macOS screen capture behave the same way; do a ten-second test share with yours before an important call.

Recording a demo of your notes? Turn privacy off first, or they won't be in the video.

Use it responsibly

Made for keeping personal notes private on calls — not for hiding help during interviews, exams or anywhere you've agreed not to.

Questions

Do I still see my notes while they're hidden?

Yes. Hiding only affects screen shares, screenshots and recordings.

Does it work in Zoom, Google Meet and Teams?

They capture through macOS, which skips windows marked as not shareable. Run a quick test share with your app once to confirm.

Is the board hidden too?

The menu bar switch hides the board and all notes. Ghost mode and the per-note lock hide notes only.

Can I use this to hide notes during an interview or exam?

Please don't. It's made for keeping personal notes private on calls — not for hiding help during interviews, exams or anywhere you've agreed not to.
